I picked up some ahi at the grocery store when it was on sale once because DH had expressed interest in trying it.  Since I had no idea how to cook it, I went online for recipes as I frequently do, and found two that sounded good.  After some trial and error, we found the best method was to slightly modify and combine them both:

Marinade two 6 oz tuna steaks (I use a large zip bag) for no longer than 30 minutes in:

1 cup soy sauce

1/2 lemon juice

2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil

2-3 cloves of garlic

salt and pepper to taste

(more than 30 minutes, and the soy can really overpower the fish)

When finished marinading and ready to cook, remove the steaks from the marinade to a plate.  Melt 1/2 Tbsp butter and  2 Tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.  While skillet is warming, season the steaks on both sides with kosher salt, cayenne pepper, and freshly ground black pepper to taste.  (I like to use a spoon to press seasonings into the meat.)

Ahi is generally eaten somewhat raw in the center, as it is a fish frequently seen in sushi.  My husband finds that 1:30-45 minutes per side get his steak perfectly done (and mostly raw) for his tastes…I, however, like very little pink in my meat, so I cook for 4 minutes a side before starting his, check mine, and usually continue to cook it for the next 3 minutes that his cooks.

This recipe rivals fish you would get at a nice restaurant–it is THAT good.

And in my area, at least, you can usually find 6 oz ahi prepacked and frozen steaks 2/$6, or thawed, previously frozen larger steaks for $7.99 to $9.99 /lb.

I find it has a very mild fishy flavor, and actually eats more like a nice cut of beef steak than fish.

The pork chop socks are absolutely adorable. The color is really vibrant and stays nice and bright after being washed. I would recommend ordering on the large side if you have a bigger baby… Parker is a chunk and a half (as you can see from the picture) and the size 1/2 were a bit tight around his “pork chops!” Parker did try to pull them off, but wasn’t able to. Any mom that knows how hard it is to keep socks on a baby knows how valuable that is! Plus – no pants = MUCH easier diaper changes!

I used the Baby Banquet with my twin 6 month-olds, who have just started eating baby foods. This is such a lifesaver with multiples- as you can use 3 different baby food jars or various snacks! I used baby food jar, cut up fruit, yogurt and rice cereal. This fit perfectly inside my diaper bag for on the go as well! While at home, I was even able to pop the entire Baby Banquet into the microwave to heat up 3 jars of baby food! (Please note that only the white insert is microwavable). Clean up is simple as can be – dishwasher safe! Awesome!

Later down the road, I can get even more use out of the Baby Banquet by removing the insert, and using it to store snacks for toddler as well!

Cover Me Strap securing a blanket over a stroller.

I received the The Cover Me Strap by Little Car in Retro Mama color, which is black with white polka dots. The Cover Me Strap is a fashion necessity as well as a Mommy must-have! I have a “Hooter-Hider” that a friend made for me, and yet it’s not always with me or its in the washing machine when I need it most. I’m a semi-germaphobe so I have issues with using the same blanket out in public more than twice without washing it, especially if it falls on the ground!

My little one is only 7 months and still breast feeding, so I need to make sure I constantly have something with me when running errands to cover up so he can eat. It’s hard to keep a blanket nicely draped over your shoulder when a 7 month old just likes to flail and push blankets away from his skin. It’s hard enough to keep fixing it and shoving the ends of the blanket under your bra strap or holding it in your teeth while you adjust. ENTER THE COVER ME STRAP! Oh my goodness I love it, my little one doesn’t mind it, and actually when he sees it now he gets quite excited because he knows it’s time to eat! I have used the strap to connect to my Kikoi (African lightweight cotton blanket). The Kikoi is about the only thing my little one will let me use to drape over him to nurse him but it doesn’t stay well on it’s own, so the Cover Me Strap is such a life-saver! I have also used the Cover Me Strap with a lightweight blanket over his stroller to keep the sun out while on walks. I used it with a lightweight blanket over the Bjorn carrier when my son was asleep on me during a party… fabulously kept the blanket in place without ever getting in his way.

The Cover Me Strap is adjustable so that it can fit me AND baby AND the stroller AND the Bjorn AND the list goes on!

I was so excited to find so many uses for this product, and I love that it is so compact, I keep it in my purse so I always have it with me!

The only change I would suggest for this product is the size of the “mouth” of the clip. It works well with most things but I have one blanket that doesn’t fit in it, making it unable to clamp down. Other than this tiny problem, I can say that this is by far my new favorite product because I can use it with almost anything and Mommies really need more products that are so versatile!
